Course: Pukekohe starts and ends with a par 5. As you go through the first nine they are some very long and short par fours, two par threes that involve water and a monster par five called Goliath that need a few big hits to get you anywhere close. Into the back nine and I thought there was a bit more length. The 11th is a great little par 3 and finishing with two great par fives as well. The 18th goes a long the the road and I reckon the shoppers at Caltex get peppered a bit by way tee shots. Ask big Joni King about that one!!!!!!
Luke's Favourite Hole: Hole 13 Par 4 342m Stroke 6
This one gives you know margin for error of the tee!. On the left is a decent sized pond and about 40m to the right is a massive bunker. If you got a bit of knuckle you can clear the water, but if you have no muscle like my boy Rowan Ricketts, you can end up in the drink, a couple of times as well. Your second as long as you find the fairway is relatively straight forward and the green is a bit easy on ya compared to some of the other monsters around the course.
Shot of the day:
This one is a no brainer. Matt Dunstan hit into the water on the par 3 6th and much to my surprise it popped out. I new this guy was special, now I just call him Jesus.
One word comes to mind when I think of Pukekohe. Value. For every great shot you hit you get value for it. And that what golfer's want when they play I reckon. On the fairways and greens they are true. Hey but dont worry there are plenty of hazards and bunkers to keep you honest as well. Some greens also test you ability and really test you. It's a ripper!!!!!!!!
